PHYLLIS FAMIGLIETTI

Phyllis Famiglietti

My work begins in fragment; torn paper, weathered images, remnants of print… the discarded language of the visual world. Through collage, I gather these fragments and reassemble them into new constellations of meaning. The act of tearing and rejoining becomes both a gesture of rupture and repair, an acknowledgment of loss and a path toward wholeness.
Birds have become recurring figures in this process, appearing as participants rather than symbols, alert to one another and to their surroundings. Their presence suggests communication, interdependence, and the subtle intelligence of living systems.
These collages are both an excavation and an offering; an investigation of who we are in a world of chaos and uncertainty. I think of them as a meditation on impermanence and the quiet persistence of abiding spirit to rise, again and again.
