I am one of those people who believe that the survival of our species relies more on collaboration than competition.
I also believe that responsibility is more valuable than accumulation, and inclusion is more powerful than division.

This small series of mixed media paintings, Balancing Paradox, is a conceptual abstraction of what a more balanced and inclusive society could look like. Top-down systems divide like mountain ranges and are represented here in pyramid form. In contrast an inverted system that represents our interconnectedness and responsible living is represented in the valleys, waterways and collective safety net. Together the upper pointing pyramid and the lower pointing pyramid can unite to become a diamond of strength and prosperity for all of humanity.

If we want to improve the human condition for future generations, we must counter our divisive politics and propaganda with a people centric platform for connection, civic participation and local response-ability (in real life). Respect for each other and the web of life can be taught in community, in relationship and across generations if given a chance. Then it would be possible to actualize the success of the United States of America’s original experiment toward -life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, for all.
