Shielded State
These works process my study of societal injustices. We find ways to separate ourselves from one another through otherizing behaviors and systemic exclusionary policies. Through laborious processes, I honor work that is unappreciated and often uncompensated. With the words of exclusion and division, separation and inequity, pain and prejudice, I press viewers to consider the effects of these practices. Using forms that are ghostly or shield-like, I emphasize the shape-shifting ubiquity of efforts to undermine the welfare, security, and success of individuals who may not fit a "norm."
